Jean-PhilippeBertocchio
JP Bertocchio (MD, PhD) is i) a physician and renal physiologist, focusing on taking care of patients with complex renal/metabolic disorders, ii) a researcher studying the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of these disorders in humans and in rodent models, and iii) an entrepreneur dedicated to facilitating both the collection and the valuation of health data. He first trained in nephrology and then joined a PhD program (UPMC, Paris, France) during which he was honored by one of the most prestigious rewards given in young scientists in France (the INSERM’s ‘Poste d’accueil’). Subsequently, he focused on studying rare diseases such as Familial Hypocalciuric Hypercalcemia FHH (in which he developed a machine-learning based algorithm to differentiate FHH from Primary Hyperparathyroidism) and hypoparathyroidism in which he conducts a prospective observational study enrolling 1,300+ patients. He then did a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship in epigenetics and bioinformatics in the team led by Dr. Pavlos Msaouel at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX) and at the Center for Precision and Environmental Health led by Prof. Cheryl Lyn Walker (Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX). For all his work, he was granted Laureate of the National Academy of Medicine in 2020. He is now leading, with Dr. Cécile Ghander, the OSCAR-affiliated rare disease center at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital (Paris) and acts as the CEO of SKEZI, a spin-off of the Assistance-Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris and the Paris-Cité University, the French leader of e-cohorts and tele-expertise in rare diseases, in which he patented the first (worldwide) AI-based tool to improve the way to collect data from patients (Patient-Reported Outcomes) whatever the condition.
