Professor of Nephrology and Consultant Nephrologist, Manchester University Hospitals & University of Manchester, UK since 2004, trained in Oxford, London and Manchester with primary academic and clinical interests in Blood Purification. Full time Clinician with diverse national and international leadership roles and responsibilities including the NIHR National Chair for Research in UK Hospital Settings ; Director for Research & Innovation, Manchester Royal Infirmary; Deputy Director for NIHR MedTech and In-vitro Diagnostics Health Technology Research Centre and Chair of Dialysis Society UK. Has served as Ex-National Chair for Renal Services CRG, NHS England. Clinical and research work has been recognised with several prestigious national and international awards including the British Renal Medicine Award and recipient of the winning prize of NHS Innovation Dragon Den’s Challenge Award. He has an active clinical research programme with several international collaborations and regularly supervises MD/PhD fellowships. He has authored 155 publications, 15 book chapters, national and international guidelines. Other educational leasdership roles include Integrated Clinical Academic training programme Lead, University of Manchester, Clinician Member for RCP Clinical Academic Affairs Committee; and Senior Mentor for NIHR, UKKA and RCP Emerging Leaders programme. He is also an expert advisor to global industry and research organisations, and UK Trade and Investment. UK National Clinical Excellence award holder since 2012 and listed as a Top 50 UK Health Service Innovator (HSJ). Prof Mitra is passionate about connecting ideas and innovators to create solutions that benefit patients, pathways, and providers.
