Dr. Sumida is an Associate Professor in the Division of Nephrology, the Department of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He is currently the chair of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM) patient resources committee, co-chair of the 21st Congress of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ICRNM 2024) Abstract Review Committee, and a member of the ISRNM education and publication committees. He serves on the editorial boards of Diabetes Care and as the Associate Editor of Nephron. His research interests are centered on epidemiology and outcomes, gut-kidney-heart axis, bone and mineral disorders, detecting modifiable, non-traditional risk factors, and identifying optimal care in chronic kidney disease through clinical studies.
