Sushrut S. Waikar, MD, MPH is the Norman G. Levinsky Professor of Medicine at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and Chief of Nephrology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Waikar received his medical degree from Yale and trained in internal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, where he served as chief medical resident. He trained in nephrology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital / Massachusetts General Hospital and earned his master’s degree in public health at Harvard in 2006. His research focuses on optimal diagnostic testing in AKI and CKD; biomarkers of kidney pathology and kidney fibrosis; identification of relevant targets for interventional trials in AKI; clinical trials to improve hemodialysis and hemofiltration safety; and improving care delivery to AKI and CKD patients. He has over 300 peer-reviewed publications and is a Multiple Principal Investigator of several grants, including the Kidney Precision Medicine Project and the CKD of Unknown Etiology Consortium.
