Dr. Raúl Lombardi is Professor Ad Honorem and Honorary Member of the Dept. of Nephrology at Universidad de la República and Past-Director of the Dept. of Critical Care Medicine at SMI, Montevideo, Uruguay. He is Board Certified in Nephrology and Intensive Care Medicine by the School of Medicine, Uruguay and did a post-doctoral fellowship at Clinique de Reanimation, Hôpital Claude Bernard, Paris. He is Past-President of both the Uruguayan Society of Nephrology and the Uruguayan Society of Critical Care Medicine. He also served as Advisor in Critical Care Medicine of the Ministry of Health. Since 2000 he Co-Chairs the AKI Commission of the Latin-American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension (SLANH). He was member of the ISN-Latin America Regional Board, and was part of the Operation Group of the ISN-0by25 Initiative and the ISN-Fellowship Program. He coordinated the first Online Course on AKI of SLANH, the first Online Course on AKI for Primary Care Physicians, and he is Editor-in-Chief of the Latin American AKI Network of SLANH. In 2017 he received the ISN Bywaters award. He also has devoted part of his time to Bioethics as co-author of the Bioethics Code of the Uruguayan College of Medicine and member of its Ethics Commissions.
