SurasakKantachuvesiri
I completed my MD and Fellowship in nephrology from the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University Thailand. I also received a Ph.D. in molecular genetics from the University of Edinburgh. My areas of interest include salt and hypertension-induced organ damage and high-risk kidney transplantation. I am former President of the Nephrology Society of Thailand and chairman of the local organizing working group of the world congress of nephrology 2023. I am currently the chairman of the Thai low salt network. My role in policy development for CKD prevention in Thailand has been prominent, I spearheaded the low salt campaign and was instrumental in setting up a national strategy on sodium reduction in Thailand endorsed by the Ministry of Public Health. The low salt network and partners have successfully advocated for a national strategy on reducing salt intake, researched sodium intake and sodium content in foods, and implemented numerous strategies including awareness campaigns, creating low salt communities, technical innovations for reducing salt in packaged foods and prepared dishes, food labeling, and developed draft regulations on marketing restrictions and taxation.
