Jadranka Buturović-Ponikvar is an internist, nephrologist, senior councillor and a Professor of Medicine, Ass. Professor of Medical Ethics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. She was born in Pula (Croatia). She graduated from the University of Belgrade Medical School (Serbia) as the best student in the class. She was first employed at the Center for Transplantation and Dialysis, University Medical Centre Serbia, Belgrade. Since1988 she has been employed at the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, Slovenia. She was Head of the Department of Nephrology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana. From 2018-2023 she was Medical Director of the University Medical Centre Ljubljana, one of the biggest hospitals in the region with more than 2000 beds and 8500 employees. She was a Chair of the Eurotransplant Ethics Committee. She is a member of ERA (European Renal Association) Ethics Committee and Commission for Medical Ethics Republic of Slovenia. She is a chair of the ISN Interventional Nephrology Working Group and a member of the ISN Central and Eastern Europe Regional Board. Her main clinical and research interests include: kidney transplantation, hemodialysis, anticoagulation, citrate, Doppler ultrasonography, kidney biopsy, medical ethics.
