Takashi Kadowaki Japan

Dr. Takashi Kadowaki is currently President of Toranomon Hospital. He was the immediate past Professor of Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, the University of Tokyo. He has contributed enormously to the elucidation of molecular mechanism of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. His laboratory co-discovered insulin sensitizing action of adiponectin and identified the receptor for adiponectin (AdipoR), which plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes linked to obesity. He received many prestigious awards such as Japan Academy Prize (2013), Manpei Suzuki International Prize for Diabetes Research (2015), Claude Bernard Award from EASD (2020). He is currently on the Editorial Board of Cell Metabolism and Molecular Metabolism. He served as the chairmen of Board of Directors of Japan Diabetes Society and Japan Society for the study of obesity. Dr. Kadowaki is currently President of the Japanese Association of Medical Sciences.
