New Developments in CKD Epidemiology Research

Session description:
The development of new approaches and methodologies in epidemiology research creates an opportunity for investigators to gain new insights into the epidemiology of chronic kidney disease to inform strategies for improved diagnosis, prevention and treatment. This session will focus on the use of patient reported outcomes, trial simulation within observational datasets and the use of routinely collected big datasets, exploring the advantagers and potential pitfalls of each.
Learning objectives:
Understand the concepts underlying the use of PROMs and review evidence supporting their use in CKD research. Gain insight into the potential to use observational datasets to simulate clinical trials and understand the limitations of this apporach. Explore the poteantial to use large sets of routinely collected data to answer research questions as well as the challenges and limitations of this approach.
