Claire A Douglas is the lead consultant in Palliative Medicine for Perth and Kinross in NHS Tayside and Honorary Senior Clinical Teacher at Dundee Medical School. She is mainly based in Cornhill Macmillan Centre, Perth Royal Infirmary but also provides a Kidney Supportive Care service and an Interstitial Lung Disease Supportive Care service across NHS Tayside and clinics based in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. She is the palliative care lead for the integrated Kidney Supportive Care service which offers joint renal / palliative care consultations for patients with chronic kidney disease managed conservatively or for those with complex needs on dialysis as well as providing education to the renal team. She is employed by the renal team to deliver this service. She contributed to the development of the Scottish Palliative Care Guidelines on management of symptoms and end of life care for patients with advanced CKD, pruritus and choosing and changing opioids and has also published on symptom control and palliative needs for patients with CKD. She is a member of the Kidney Supportive Care group for the ISN and is a member of the UK Kidney Association Kidney Supportive Care specialist interest group. She is also a member of the Scottish Renal Association specialist interest group for Kidney Supportive Care. Claire is the co-chair of the Non-Cancer subgroup of the NHS Tayside Palliative and End of Life Care MCN and is passionate about integrated, joint professional working for patients with non-cancer conditions to enhance quality of life for this cohort of patients. Outside of work Claire is a mum, wife, and also tries to squeeze some hillwalking, cycling and marathon running into her life.
