Claire Sharpe is the Dean of Education at the University of Nottingham School of Medicine, which she joined in October 2022. Prior to this, she was interim Dean of Medical Education at King’s College London Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine and Professor of Renal Medicine. Claire graduated in Medicine from University College London and, after specialising in Renal Medicine, undertook a PhD in renal cell biology at King’s College London followed by a Department of Health/MRC Clinician Scientist Award focusing on understanding the mechanisms of disease progression in kidney failure. Her clinical specialty is in the care of patients with sickle cell disease and kidney complications. She established the kidney/sickle cell clinic at KCH, jointly with the department of Haematology in 2004 and has been invited to deliver over 40 lectures internationally, has published several papers in peer-reviewed journals and authored 5 book chapters on the subject. She currently sits on the UK National Haemoglobinopathy Expert Panel.
