Agathe Nkoy is a pediatric nephrologist at the University Hospital of Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where she has been involved for several years in the management of children presenting common pediatric kidney diseases in sub-Saharan Africa, including acute kidney injury (AKI), nephrotic syndrome, kidney complications related to HIV-infection and sickle cell disease. As a clinician, one of her main achievements is her contribution to establishing the first pediatric acute peritoneal dialysis (PD) program in DRC using locally produced dialysis fluids. This program has saved the lives of children suffering from AKI in DRC. Besides, she is actively conducting outreach activities to raise awareness of community and regional healthcare providers in early recognition and reference of patients with AKI as critical interventions to efficiently reduce AKI-related preventable deaths.
