Yoshihito Nihei
Dr. Yoshihito Nihei is an assistant professor at Juntendo University. His main research interests include glomerular nephritis especially IgA nephropathy. He obtained his MD from the Juntendo University in 2013. He started scientific training in the laboratory of Prof. Yusuke Suzuki from 2017 and obtained his PhD from the Juntendo University in 2021. During his research period as a graduate student, he studied the mechanism by which IgA antibodies are selectively deposited in the mesangial region in IgA nephropathy and demonstrated the presence of IgA antibodies against mesangial cells (anti-mesangium IgA antibodies) in sera of patients with IgA nephropathy. He identified β2 spectrin and CBX3 as the target antigens (Sci. Adv. 2023. Life Sci. Alliance 2024.). He was awarded the 2024 Young Investigator Award (YIA) from the JSN and the YIA in the 17th International Symposium on IgA Nephropathy (2023).
