Dr. Nicholas is tenured Professor of Medicine and Clinical Hypertension Specialist at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology and Chair of the UCLA Nephrology Racial and Health Equity Committee. She received her MD from the University of California, San Diego; MPH from San Diego State University; and PhD from UCLA. Her translational research aims to understand and identify key factors that promote DKD pathogenesis; and validate novel therapeutic targets and predictive biomarkers of DKD; and perform population studies in CKD health disparities. She is NIH-funded, has >120 publications and presented >130 scientific abstracts. She was a Robert Wood Johnson Fellow and received the Minority Access, Inc. National Role Model Faculty Researcher Award, the National Kidney Foundation's Medical Advisory Board Distinguished Service Award for 15+ years of dedicated service. Dr. Nicholas has been a grant-reviewer for several NIH and private organizations, chairs an NIH study section and serves on the editorial board for the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. Finally, Dr. Nicholas is President of Women in Nephrology.
