Dr. Octavio J. Salgado is a board certified internist and nephrologist from the University of Saarland Medical Clinic in Homburg/Saar, Germany, where he trained in interventional procedures. In late 1986 he joined the Renal Service at the University Hospital of Maracaibo, Venezuela and since 1988, he is also professor of medicine at University of Zulia School of Medicine. He has devoted much of his time to the problems of HD vascular accesses, performing by himself to date over 3.000 arteriovenous fistulas. In addition, he has an extensive experience in ultrasound in nephrology, including vascular mapping and US-guidance for invasive procedures. Currently Dr. Salgado is ISN Educational Ambassador and Chair of the SLANH interventional nephrology committee. Dr. Salgado has been since years commited with the spread of interventional nephrology thoughout Latin America. He hosted for almost 10 years an ISN-endorsed fellowship program for training in interventional nephrology in his home center in Venezuela. He is a past member of the ISN Interventional Nephrology Committee and the ISN Latin America Regional Board. Currently, Dr. Salgado is the head of the chair of Nephrology and a member of the Clinical Research Department at the Catholic University of Cuenca Medical School (Universidad Católica de Cuenca), Ecuador.
