Michel B. Chonchol, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He completed an internship and a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, as well as a clinical and research fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Chonchol serves as the Head of the Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Has established himself as a national and international leader in clinical nephrology. He is significantly productive, with over 400 publications, and has been invited to lecture nationally and internationally. He is well-funded by the National Institute of Health and Industry. Dr Chonchol’s research interests are to explore traditional and non-traditional risk factors in patients with chronic kidney disease and polycystic kidney disease that could explain the high rate of death and cardiovascular events, as well as kidney disease progression observed in this patient population. The risk factors that he has focused on include: abnormalities of mineral metabolism, hypertension, and vascular disease. Certified by the American Board of Nephrology, Dr. Chonchol is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, the American College of Physicians, the International Society of Nephrology, and the National Kidney Foundation, among others.
