Chia-Ter Chao, MD, PhD, FASN is a nephrologist and physician-scientist at National Taiwan University Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at National Taiwan University. He currently serves as Vice Superintendent of Min-Sheng General Hospital and is a Board Director of the Toxicology Society of Taiwan (TSTA). His academic career integrates clinical nephrology, geriatric medicine, and translational vascular biology.
Dr. Chao’s research focuses on geriatric nephrology, vascular calcification, frailty and sarcopenia, CKD-mineral and bone disorders, and epigenetic regulation, particularly microRNA-mediated mechanisms linking aging, uremia, and cardiovascular risk. He has published extensively in leading nephrology, cardiovascular, and aging journals, with work spanning molecular biology, population-based cohort studies, and clinical risk stratification. His contributions have helped advance the concepts of vascular frailty and frail kidney phenotypes across CKD and end-stage kidney disease populations.
An active participant in the global nephrology community, Dr. Chao frequently presents at ASN Kidney Week, ERA, APCN, and loco-regional conferences, and serves in editorial roles for multiple international academic journals. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (FASN), reflecting sustained international impact in nephrology and aging research.
