Kanako Terakawa
Dr. Kanako Terakawa is a board-certified internist and dialysis physician, and a PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. She received her medical degree from the University of Tokyo in 2019, completed her internal medicine residency at Toranomon Hospital, and her nephrology fellowship at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident. Her research focuses on the pathophysiology of the AKI-to-CKD transition and kidney fibrosis, pursued through two complementary approaches: investigating the role of thermal biology in tubular injury and protection, and applying spatial transcriptomics to elucidate gene programs underlying kidney fibrosis. Beyond the laboratory, she has led clinical research on urinary biomarkers in COVID-19 and continues to engage actively in patient care. Dr. Terakawa is committed to integrating clinical nephrology, experimental biology, and data science to advance the understanding and treatment of progressive kidney disease.
