Dr. Noriaki Kurita is a nephrologist, clinical epidemiologist, and Professor at Fukushima Medical University, where he leads the Department of Innovative Research and Education for Clinicians and Trainees (DiRECT). He will serve as Professor of Preventive Medicine at Tokai University from April 2026.
His work centers on the role of trust and hope in shaping patient behavior and decision-making in kidney disease, particularly in end-stage kidney failure. He developed the Health-Related Hope (HR-Hope) scale, a novel patient-reported measure linking psychological constructs with adherence and clinical outcomes.
With over 130 publications in journals such as Kidney International, CJASN, and AJKD, his research integrates epidemiology, patient-centered care, and shared decision-making to advance kidney supportive care globally.
