Dr. Matamoros is a transplant surgeon from Costa Rica. She received her MD and surgical training at the University of Costa Rica. Pursued further training at Kyoto University in Japan, Georg August-University in Germany, and La Fe Hospital in Valencia. In Costa Rica, the pediatric living liver transplant program was developed with support from Kyoto University and later expanded to include adult patients. Dr. Matamoros was part of the Istanbul Summit in 2008, where the scientific community created the Istanbul. Declaration. She worked in her home country to let the medical authorities and government know the Declaration of Istanbul and follow the international community's ethical principles. She got her master's degree in Bioethics from the National University in Costa Rica in 2017. And she has been part of the First and Second Bioethics Forum of the Latin American and Caribbean Transplant Society, STALYC. She has been part of the DICG Board of Council since 2020 and is the President-Elect of the Society of Transplantation of Latin America and the Caribbean (STALYC) 2022-2024.
