Sydney Tang
Sydney Tang is currently Chair of Renal Medicine and Yu Professor in Nephrology at The University of Hong Kong. He graduated from HKU with MBBS and subsequently MD and PhD degrees. He trained in Nephrology at Queen Mary Hospital (Hong Kong) and in basic sciences at King’s College London (UK) and the University of Washington (USA). His research interests include the pathogenetic mechanisms of diabetic and proteinuric kidney disease, and the treatment of IgA nephropathy. He has published over 350 SCI articles and written over 30 book chapters including one on diabetic kidney disease in Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN), Editorial Board member of Kidney International (KI), CJASN, American Journal of Nephrology and Kidney Diseases, and Emeritus Editor-in-Chief of Nephrology (Carlton). He is the Scientific Program Work Group Chair of World Congress of Nephrology 2026 to be held in Yokohama, and Scientific Program Committee Member of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) Congress 2026 to be held in Cape Town. He is currently Chair of the Publications Committee of ISPD, Co-Chair of the Peer Support Committee of the International Society of Glomerular Disease (ISGD), immediate past President of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology (APSN), immediate past Chair of the CME Program Committee of the ISN and Executive Committee Member of KDIGO (2020-2023). Locally, he serves the Hong Kong College of Physicians as Council Member and Chairman of the Specialty Board in Nephrology and is a previous chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology.
