Bill Wang, LLB, MS, LLM, is a distinguished patient advocate and legal & governance professional whose work is deeply informed by his personal journey through autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), progressive chronic kidney disease (CKD stages 1-5), hemodialysis, a combined liver-kidney transplant, and post-transplant management. Bill channels this lived experience into strategic advocacy and advisory roles on the global stage. He currently serves as the Immediate Past Chair of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Patient Liaison Advisory Group, Vice Chair of the Hong Kong Kidney Foundation, and a Member of the World Kidney Day Joint Steering Committee. Bill is a passionate proponent of person-centered care, improved patient outcomes, and shared decision-making. Through active participation in initiatives such as ISN, KDIGO, SONG, and CanSOLVE-CKD, and through prolific publications on WHO platforms and in professional journals, he consistently frames lived experience as "the expertise undervalued" in healthcare systems. Elevating such expertise is central to his advocacy, which focuses on paradigm transformation, capacity building to achieve meaningful lived experience engagement in clinical practice, research, education, and guideline development.
