MarinaVivarelli
Dr Marina Vivarelli trained in Pediatrics at the University of Pavia, Italy and completed a Research Fellowship at Harvard University - Children’s Hospital Boston with Prof Raif Geha, studying B cell function. Since 2006, in the Division of Pediatric Nephrology of the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, Italy, she has worked to establish a new front of translational research in pediatric immune-mediated renal diseases. Research performed in her lab has elucidated some aspects of the role of B cells in the pathogenesis of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome. She has designed a phase 1 trial on the use of mesenchymal stem cells in difficult forms of nephrotic syndrome, and has contributed to design trials evaluating the use of belimumab, ofatumumab and comparing rituximab and mycophenolate mofetil in pediatric nephrotic syndrome. She has contributed to trials evaluating complement inhibitors for children with aHUS and C3 glomerulopathy. She now leads the Clinical Trial Center of Bambino Gesù Children\'s Hospital.
