Sonia L. Chicano is a graduate of the Cebu Doctors College of Medicine. She finished her residency training in Anatomic Pathology and her fellowship training in Renal Pathology at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI). As a fellow of the International Society of Nephrology, she trained further in Renal Pathology and Electron Microscopy at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Upon her return to the Philippines, she promoted Renal Pathology and Transplant Pathology rotations by nephrology fellows. She gives lectures and attends conferences for different subspecialties and medical institutions in the entire Philippines. She is currently the head of the Renal Pathology and Electron Microscopy Unit of NKTI. She is also a visiting consultant in Renal Pathology at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in both Quezon City and Global City. She is a Senior Lecturer in Pathology at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. She is a member of the OSEA Regional Board and of the Renal Pathology Technical Working Group of the ISN.
