Prof. Yoshiyuki Kizawa, MD, PhD, is Director of the Department of Palliative and Supportive Care at the University of Tsukuba Hospital and Professor of Palliative Medicine at the Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, Japan. He currently serves as President of the Japanese Society for Palliative Medicine, which has over 12,000 members, and is a Council Member of the Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN), contributing to its research activities. He has led national initiatives to integrate palliative care into routine clinical practice, including the PEACE program, a government-funded primary palliative care education initiative launched in 2007. As of March 2025, more than 190,000 physicians have completed the program. He also leads the national advance care planning education project, E-FIELD, promoting communication and shared decision-making in serious illness care. His research and clinical interests focus on palliative care integration, advance care planning, and supportive care for patients with serious illness.
