Yasuhiko Ito, MD PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Nephrology and Rheumatology at Aichi Medical University, Nagakute, Japan. He was a council member of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) from 2016 to 2024 and served as Congress Chair of the ISPD-APCM 2019 in Nagoya, Japan, from September 5 to 7, 2019. He has been a council and executive committee member of the Japanese Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (JSPD). He contributed to the ISPD guidelines on catheter-related infections, which were published in 2017 and 2023. He chaired the Peritoneal Dialysis Guideline of the Japanese Society of Dialysis Therapy (JSDT), published in Japanese in 2019 and in English in 2021. His primary research interests include the progression mechanisms of tubulointerstitial fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the pathologies and pathogenesis of ultrafiltration failure, peritoneal membrane dysfunction, and encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS) in peritoneal dialysis (PD). He has published over 200 original and review articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has given lectures at international congresses and meetings, including those of the ISPD and ASN, as well as at academic institutions.
