Dr Cheung was graduated from the University of Hong Kong and received his nephrology and advanced internal medicine training in Queen Elizabeth Hospital. After overseas training, he received his Doctor of Philosophy in 2009 from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. In 2017, he received Doctor of Medicine from the University of Hong Kong. His research interests include immunosuppressive drugs in kidney transplantation, pharmacogenetics and onconephrology. He has published more than 110 papers in peer-reviewed international and local journals with over 80% being the first or corresponding author. He was the invited speaker and moderator in different globally renowned conferences such as International Congress of the Transplantation Society, Asian Pacific Congress of Nephrology, Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation and the Asian Transplantation Week. In addition, Dr Cheung has also served as reviewer for multiple international journals including the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, American Journal of Transplantation, Transplant International, Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation, Nephrology, etc. He won the Outstanding Staff Award in Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Outstanding Team Award in Kowloon Central Cluster in 2011 and 2026 respectively. In addition, he is selected as one of the finalists for Hospital Authority Outstanding Award in Research in 2026. Dr Cheung is currently the President of the Hong Kong Society of Transplantation and Program Director in Nephrology Specialty Board in the Hong Kong College of Physicians. In addition, he is also the Consultant and Deputy Chief of Service in the Department of Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong.
