Mark D. Okusa, M.D. is the John C. Buchanan Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Chief of the Division of Nephrology, and Director of the Center for Immunity, Inflammation, and Regenerative Medicine at the University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, VA, USA. He earned his B.S. from George Washington University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia, where he also completed his internship and residency. He then pursued nephrology training at Yale University. Dr. Okusa joined UVA in 1991, integrating clinical care, education, and research. His clinical interests focus on AKI and CKD. Dr. Okusa has held key leadership roles in ASN, serving as Chair of the Program Committee (2011) and President (2018). He has contributed to NIH study sections and advisory committees and has served on editorial boards for leading journals. He is a member of the American Clinical and Climatological Association and the Association of American Physicians.
