Kelli Owen is a strong Kaurna, Narungga, and Ngarrindjeri woman with lived experience of kidney disease, Ms Owen’s journey through peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis, and kidney transplantation uniquely positions her to address the challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in the kidney health space. Her role as the National Community Engagement Coordinator for the National Indigenous Kidney Transplantation Taskforce (NIKTT) and as a Chief Investigator Lead on the COMPASS (Connecting Our Mob Patient navigators As Sustainable Supports) MRFF grant, a CI on AKction2 (Aboriginal Kidney Care Together Improving Outcomes Now2) NHMRC Ideas grant has enabled her to translate these personal experiences into actionable strategies that prioritise culturally safe and accessible healthcare. Kelli is a Ministerial nominated Australian Advisory Committee member on Australian Organ Tissue Authority (AOTA). Kelli holds the Cultural Advisor position at the Central and Northern Adelaide Renal Transplantation Service (CNARTS)with the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Kelli is a director at Warra Wangkatitya, bringing her First Nations Language Education skills to revitalising Kaurna language on country in Adelaide. Kelli is completing her PhD through Victoria University, exploring Indigenous Governance & Data Sovereignty when advocating for Health or Education system changes through the voices of community.
