Felicitas E. Hengel Germany

Dr. Felicitas Hengel is a clinician-scientist and nephrologist in training at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany. Her work focuses on immune-mediated kidney diseases, in particular autoantibody-mediated nephrotic syndrome. She is especially interested in the role of autoantibodies against nephrin, a key slit diaphragm protein of the podocyte, in primary podocytopathies including childhood nephrotic syndrome, minimal change disease and primary FSGS. She is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Else-Kröner-Fresenius Foundation. Her work on anti-nephrin autoantibodies has been recognized with several awards, including the Dr. Martini Prize of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, the Carl-Ludwig-Award of the German Society of Nephrology and the Theodor-Frerichs Award of the German Society of Internal Medicine.
