I studied how cetaceans perceive stress from an endocrinological perspective during my student years and earned my PhD in Agricultural Science in 2001. Since entering the research profession, I have focused primarily on the regulatory mechanisms of osmotic pressure as a form of metabolic stress. I investigate these questions through both laboratory research and fieldwork in Japan, where a wide variety of cetaceans inhabit and many aquaria are located.
