Nutritional status and hemodialysis adequacy are intertwined concepts in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD). The Malnutrition-Inflammation Score (MIS) and the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM) criteria for protein-energy wasting (PEW) are tools for diagnosing malnutrition, but they have a complex and often paradoxical relationship with dialysis adequation.

We conducted a cross-sectional study on October 2023 at Sanjiwani Gianyar Hospital Bali. Nutritional status was measured by MIS and ISRNM criteria, and dialysis adequacy was measured by Dougirdas Kt/V method. The correlation of dialysis adequacy and nutritional status by MIS and ISRNM criteria were analyzed by Pearson correlation test.

This study enrolled 95 subjects, consisted of 52 males and 43 females with a mean age of 52 years and 50 month the mean length of dialysis. All subjects were treated by two times a week of dialysis with polysulfone dialyzer. The most Comorbid of the subjects were diabetes mellitus and hypertension in 49.5 % cases. This study found that the mean serum creatinine level was 9.69±2.88 mg/dL, the mean Kt/V was 1.82 ± 0.46 and the median of MIS and ISRNM criteria were 5 and 2 respectively. The Pearson correlation test we found that hemodialysis adequacy was significant correlated with nutritional status by MIS and ISRNM criteria with r= 0.366 and r=0.281 respectively.

This study found that dialysis adequacy were correlated with nutritional status by MIS and ISRNM criteria.
