EC Neph (#ECNeph) started as a revolutionary social networking reshaping nephrology education through social media-based clinical case discussion. Born out of a groundswell of interest for interactive education among nephrologists, it leveraged Twitter's ubiquity to engage clinicians, academicians, and trainees, globally.
Objective: To describe the evolution, implementation, and educational impact of #ECNeph as a global peer-learning model in nephrology.
Methods: #ECNeph sessions are conducted as a monthly, hour-long routine, using structured, threaded case discussions featuring progressive disclosure of the case, differential diagnosis, and management debates
The initial #ECNeph sessions began with interesting case discussions on "AKI—The Familiar Meets the Strange" and progressively evolved into a dynamic monthly series with global participation. Content diversity expanded to post-transplant infections, diagnostic riddles, AKI in high-risk groups, challenging cases of nephrotic syndrome and lupus nephritis. Throughout its course, EC Neph brought themed sessions associated with clinical enigmas like "Twists and Turns of Kidney Disease," "Unravelling Mystery of Kidney Failure," "Solving the Mystery: Nephrology to the Rescue," and other everyday clinical dilemmas, allowing peer-to-peer learning and mentorship. Each #ECNeph session monthly was spearheaded by engaging case histories uncovered gradually through threaded discussion, encouraging active participation and problem-solving from a growing group of participants.
#ECNeph exemplifies the influence on the of digital collaboration within the nephrology community by opening up access to clinical information, energizing mentorship networks, and shattering professional and geographic silos. Empowering younger nephrologists, medical students, and trainees to participate in live case-based reasoning, In essence, #ECNeph is the epitome of the convergence of conventional clinical acumen and contemporary social media technology, pushing the limits of digital medical education, peer mentorship, and effective community development in nephrology. Its legacy remains to expand as an open-access platform that upskills experts, redefines clinical paradigms, and enables the next generation of kidney healthcare professionals across the globe
