Monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (MNE) significantly affects the quality of life (QoL) of children and their mothers, leading to reduced self-esteem and potential psychological issues. This study aimed to evaluate QoL among children aged 5-18 years diagnosed with MNE and their mothers at diagnosis and after achieving a complete treatment response.

A prospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Fifty-five children (35 boys, mean age 11.25 ± 3.24 years) with MNE and their mothers were enrolled. QoL assessments included the Pediatric Incontinence Questionnaire (PinQ) for children, while the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-AD), Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), and the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36) for mothers' QoL. Assessments were done at diagnosis and after a complete response of the child.

Of the 55 children enrolled, 42 (76.36%) achieved complete treatment response within six months. Post-treatment, PinQ scores significantly improved from 40.88 ± 9.33 to 11.19 ± 9.53 (p<0.0001), reflecting enhanced QoL. Mothers also demonstrated significant QoL improvements in STAI-AD (52.88 ± 7.27 to 35.31 ± 3.92, p<0.0001), SDS (49.12 ± 5.64 to 36.6 ± 5.59, p<0.0001), and SF-36 scores (1915.83 ± 203.32 to 1443.33 ± 657.77, p<0.0001).

Nocturnal Enuresis negatively impacts QoL for both children and mothers, underscoring the importance of timely treatment to improve psychological outcomes significantly.

The study was previously presented as a conference abstract (only) at ISPNCON 2023, Kolkata, India (Oct 13–15, 2023). Abstract was published in the Asian Journal of Pediatric Nephrology (Vol 6, Issue 2, 2023). No full article was published.
