Renal medicine and pathophysiology form a cornerstone of medical and nursing education. With evolving clinical paradigms in diabetes management, and rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI), educators are challenged to balance foundational sciences with openness to innovation. This project explored attitudes toward incorporating Bayesian reasoning, and AI into renal system teaching.

A literature review was conducted alongside an informal poll of local (Singapore) and overseas medical/nursing educators/students. Three questions guided the survey: (1) Do you apply Bayesian nomograms in clinical reasoning? (2) Can type 2 diabetes (T2DM) be reversed with intermittent fasting? (3) Is ChatGPT useful for learning pathophysiology? Responses from students and clinicians were analyzed.

Overseas colleagues demonstrated greater openness to novel approaches compared to locals. Bayesian nomogram use was reported at 20+/-1% locally versus 30+/-1% overseas. Views on T2DM differed: local colleagues emphasized metformin, while overseas educators referenced newer evidence on remission through weight loss, bariatric surgery, or GLP-1 receptor agonists/SGLT2 inhibitors. AI adoption was reported at 30+/-1% locally versus 55+/-1% overseas. Among students, 72+/-1% used ChatGPT in their learning.

Findings highlight a generational and cultural gap in open-mindedness. Incorporating Bayesian thinking fosters probabilistic diagnostic reasoning. ChatGPT, while limited by hallucinations, can enhance engagement and learning if used critically. Broadmindedness in teaching the renal system requires integration of evidence-based strategies, Bayesian reasoning, and responsible AI adoption. Such an approach better prepares the community for evolving clinical realities and cultivates adaptability in future healthcare providers. More shall be discussed during the presentation.
