Globally, the incidence of nephrotic syndrome in adults is 3:100.000 cases per year. With the low number of cases of nephrotic syndrome, researchers conducted this research with the aim of describing the clinical profile seen in patients, results of blood and urine laboratory examinations which will show various comorbidities and an overview of kidney function in patients with nephrotic syndrome, as well as a description of the histopathological examination that used to supports the diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome at Wongsonegoro Hospital, Semarang, Indonesia. Researchers hopes that this study can support another nephrotic syndrome research, especially in Indonesia.

This research used a cross-sectional method conducted by three members. The research was carried out by collecting patient medical records for the period January to October 2023. Through this data, the researchers analyzed the clinical profile, laboratory findings and histopathological findings obtained through kidney biopsies carried out by nephrologists from 15 medical record data.

In this study, it was found that 20% of patients were teenagers aged 10-19 years and 80% of patients were over 19 years old. Based on gender, patients with nephrotic syndrome are dominated by women (53.5%). 

Conclusions

The results of the study showed that most patients were aged >19 years (80%) and patients with nephrotic syndrome were dominated by women (53.5%). It was found that most patients experienced swelling, especially in the peripheral area (86.7%) and periorbital edema (33.3%). The most dominant comorbid factors were hyperlipidemia (73.3%). The results of histopathological examination were dominated by the occurrence of glomerular sclerosis (36.4%) and inflammatory cell infiltration (36.4%). Through the results of this histopathological findings, there is a relation that this finding related to the decreased kidney function as seen from the laboratory findings and the clinical profile that occurs in the patient.
