The neutrophil-lymphocyte index (INL) is a biological marker of both inflammation and endothelial dysfunction that can be applied in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). To determine the association of the neutrophil-lymphocyte index with mortality in patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease, prevalent in hemodialysis, in a public hospital
Cohort, observational and analytical design, the sampling was non-probabilistic and by convenience. We evaluated 250 records of patients with stage 5 CKD in ambulatory hemodialysis for at least 3 months, who started hemodialysis at the Hospital Nacional Arzobispo Loayza (HNAL) between the years 2015-2016, then were referred to external dialysis centers and had subsequent follow-up in the nephrology service of the HNAL, the observation ended on December 31, 2019. Multiple regression using generalized linear models was used in the analysis. The exposure variable was the Neutrophil Leukocyte Neutrophil Index (≥3.5 and < 3.5) and the outcome variable was vital status at the end of the observation.
INL ≥ 3.5 was associated with increased mortality in patients with CKD 5 on outpatient hemodialysis.
