Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) are used to monitor the health status of patients and personalize their treatments. The effective use of PROMs in clinical practice can enhance treatment outcomes by increasing patient engagement. It is of utmost importance for clinicians and patients to be educated on this matter and to conduct regular monitoring. This study aims to investigate the significance of PROMs for Kidney Healthcare Providers (KHPs).
KHPs' evaluation of patient attitudes and opinions on dialysis modalities an online survey was prepared. The prepared survey was distributed to KHPs across all regions of Türkiye between March 15 and June 15, 2023. Data distribution was evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test and Pearson's Chi-squared test.
102 doctors and 42 nurses (F82, M62, mean age 45+/- 8.6 years) completed the survey. 57.7% of the respondents believed that the interaction between dialysis patients at the center contributed significantly to the patients' ability to manage their disease. 66% of KHPs agree with the perception that most dialysis patients in the center see coming to the clinic three times a week as burdensome. KHPs (75.1%) encourage their patients to consider home dialysis due to the flexibility it offers in terms of time (Figure 1).KHPs believe that Peritoneal Dialysis (70.1%) and Home Hemodialysis (79.8%) provide a better quality of life for patients compared to center Hemodialysis. According to KHPs, the best dialysis modality education is Practical Continuous Education (88.2%) (Figure 2).
Implementing PROMs and associating them with actionable treatment interventions can be the key to enhancing patients' well-being and improving their health. It is important to educate KHPs on the practical implementation of PROMs and to encourage clinicians to use PROMs consistently.
