Introduction:
In India with limited deceased donor program and with increasing cases of ESRD, we are forced to consider marginal living related donors with hyperglycemia for kidney transplantation.
· The aim of this Study is to get better understanding of the Medium and long term outcomes of diabetic donors post-transplantation.
Methods:
· It’s retrospective observational Study
· We have screened 1387 donors from January, 2013 to August,2023
· Details obtained through Hospital Registry data, whats-app messages and Telephonic conversation (donors/recipients)
· Factors noted – S creatinine, UPCR , HbA1C, Glucose levels, BMI, BP and co-morbidities.
· Inclusion Criteria: All live donors between january,2013 to August, 2023.
· Exclusion Criteria: Deceased Donors
Results:
Pre – donation characteristics:
6 Diabetic donors lost to follow up and 1 diabetic donor died due to Lung CA which was diagnosed later on.
2 diabetic donors had UPCR >300 mg/gm at last follow up, that to not > 1 gm.
No diabetic donor had eGFR <60 ml/min/1.73 m2 at follow up.
Conclusions:
--> In Our Institute, Diabetic kidney donors had equivalent renal function and survival rates, comparable to non diabetic donors.
--> However close monitoring and follow up care is necessary to ensure well being of these donors.
--> Further research and studies are needed regarding potential risk factors and complications associated with diabetic kidney donors.
