Introduction:
Lung function and kidney function are related to each other in both health and disease. Under normal circumstances, the lungs and kidneys work together to maintain normal physiology of the body. But this mechanism can hamper several respiratory diseases and kidney diseases like chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is defined as abnormalities of kidney structure or function, present for >3 months, with implications for health. Kidney disease improving global outcome sets criteria for the chronic kidney disease (CKD) those include Markers of kidney damage and decreased GFR. Our aim is to evaluate the association of lung dysfunction through forced oscillation technique (FOT) in different stages of CKD with stage wise chronic kidney disease.
Methods:
Selection of the patient according to KDIGO criteria of chronic kidney disease (CKD) after taking proper consent. Categorization of the patients of chronic kidney disease in different stages based on eGFR (Calculate the eGFR using 2021 CKD – EPI creatinine equation). Required Relevant kidney and lungs investigations for study are to be done, those include Renal function Test (RFT), USG KUB, UACR (urine albumin-creatinine ratio) (forced oscillation Technique (FOT). 320 individuals representing GFR category G1 (n=30; GFR >90 mL/min/1.73 m2 ), G2 (n=45), G3 (n=32), G4 (n=49) and G5 (n=70; GFR< 15 mL/min/1.73 m2 ) ,G5D(n=94) have under goen In Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT) we look for R5, R5-R20, AX, X5, Expiratory flow limitation (ΔX5). After all detailed investigations, the stages of chronic kidney disease are corelated with lungs dysfunction as restrictive ,obstructive or mixed through FOT parameters (like R5, R5-R20, AX, X5, Expiratory flow limitation (ΔX5).
Results:
The prevalence of obstructive (5% in G1 , 10% in G5,15% in G5D) and restrictive (9% in G1 to 37% in G5 and 45% G5D) lung dysfunction increased.so restrictive patten is more in higher ckd staging .
Conclusions:
Lung dysfunction particularly restrictive lung dysfunction associates with degree of renal function impairment and is an independent predictor of CKD patients
