Introduction:
A "tweetorial" or “Xtorial” is a series of connected tweets designed to educate, inform, or explain a topic in a more detailed and structured manner than a single tweet could. Professionals, educators, and experts often use Tweetorials to share knowledge, provide step-by-step explanations, or discuss complex ideas in a way that is accessible and engaging on Twitter. ISN uses tweetorials to divide complex clinical guidelines and best practices into digestible segments, making it easier for nephrologists and healthcare professionals to understand and apply this information in their practice. They often highlight recent research findings, summarize key takeaways, and discuss their implications in clinical practice.
Methods:
This study sought to quantitatively evaluate the impact of the ISN tweetorials initiative. Between February 2021 and July 2024, data on tweetorial impressions, engagements, and views were collected and analyzed from Twitter X platform.
Results:
Twenty-eight tweets were delivered during the study period, 28 tweetorials were delivered. These tweetorials had 304,069 engagements, 11913 impressions, 6404 detail expands, 1091 likes, and 829 retweets. Additionally, 597 clicks redirected viewers towards the ISN profile. The Tweetorial on the “Non-infectious complications of PD” had the maximum impressions(49403), engagements (3665), and likes (152).
Conclusions:
The broad Twitter user base enables tweetorials to reach a global audience, including professionals, students, and the general public, which enhances their visibility and engagement, surpassing traditional forms of content. Real-time interaction is facilitated, allowing readers to ask questions, share opinions, and engage in discussion. Interactive features, such as polls, quizzes, and prompts, are integrated to make the content more engaging and involve the audience in the learning process. In essence, ISN leverages tweetorials as a versatile tool for educating, engaging, and empowering the global nephrology community, making complex information more accessible, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.
