Session Description

This session will examine the importance of people-led approaches in augmenting the prevention and control of chronic kidney conditions and other co-existing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The focus will be on identifying evidence-based strategies which can inform models of meaningful engagement of lived experience champions and communities at-large. The session will also trace the journey of meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs in India and the South East Asia Region, and its inclusion in the operational guidelines of India's National Programme for NCD Prevention and Control (NP-NCD). Through real life lived experience-sharing, the session will highlight the need for making health systems more people-friendly in order to enhance treatment outcomes for chronic kidney conditions and other co-morbidities. Discussion will also explore policy maker perspectives on meaningful engagement and how communities can work in tandem to augment government efforts to provide high quality, accessible, affordable and equitable NCD services. The session will commence with two in-depth presentations that will be followed by a panel discussion.
Learning objectives:

  1. Understand the critical role of meaningful involvement of people living with chronic kidney conditions and other NCDs in augmenting prevention and control programmes and services.
  2. Explore evidence-based strategies and best practices through real life case studies that demonstrate community leadership and expertise in management of chronic kidney conditions and co-morbidities.
