Session description:
Disease diagnosis and therapeutic plans in nephrology are heavily dependent on kidney biopsies, thus renal pathologists play a pivotal role in nephrology practice. However, rapidly advancing artificial intelligence is taking over tasks in various human activities. In this debate, current and future roles of renal pathologists and artificial intelligence in the diagnosis of kidney disease by kidney biopsy will be discussed, with a goal to identify the best strategy to obtain the most precise tissue/molecular diagnosis.
Learning objectives:
Learn the potential and the limitations of artificial intelligence in interpreting kidney biopsies. Appreciate the current and future roles of renal pathologists in kidney disease diagnosis.
