Sumaiya Arfin is a dental surgeon with a background in public health, currently pursuing a PhD at Amsterdam UMC. She works as a consultant for the Mahidol Oxford Research Unit (MORU) and serves as an Honorary Research Fellow with the George Institute for Global Health in India. Her research is focused on antimicrobial stewardship in Indian ICUs, supported by a registry. She has previously worked on mobile-based decision support systems for managing non-communicable diseases and assisted in the development of a registry for documenting health and economic outcomes in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients undergoing dialysis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she contributed to clinical trials, including project management, trial adaptation, and research dissemination. Additionally, she has reviewed technology-driven health initiatives in India. Early in her career, she provided oral health care in resource-poor settings in central India. Her interests include improving healthcare delivery and outcomes in underserved populations.
